New iPod controls and rotation lock discovered in OS 4.0

Steve Jobs has already demoed the iPhone OS 4.0 to public but the beat versions released for developers to work on, keeps on throwing up good surprises. The Beta 3 of the OS 4 has revealed an orientation lock and a new iPod control in the multitasking dock. A left swipe on the multitasking dock shows up this option of quickly playing with the audio controls or even jump to the iPod app.

The software button for orientation lock suggests that there won’t be any hardware button for this purpose on the iPhone 4G (like the iPad). This kinda makes sense as the iPad doesn’t need a mute button so it can replace that with a orientation lock toggle.  It is also revealed that the orientation lock in the OS 4 only allows locking in portrait mode. Lets see what other surprises the iPhone 4th Gen brings along on launch day!

Update: As it seems BGR has unearthed a couple of more features. Amongst their discovery is the option to close backgroung applications (which come in officially with the multitasking in OS 4) and a potentially big one is the ability to movie files between your iPhone OS device and PC / Mac using iTunes.
